Opening doors for parents, unlocking learning for kids.

My name is Lexi and I am the founder of Open Door Learning. After years of working in schools, I saw how much is expected of parents—and how little support they are given to navigate it all. Report cards, curriculum, and classroom expectations can feel like another language, and too often parents are left feeling unsure of how to help. I started Open Door Learning to bridge that gap, giving families the clarity, confidence, and practical tools they need to support their child’s learning at home.
I have ten years of classroom experience, five of which I was a kindergarten teacher. I loved working with some of the youngest learners in our education system. This also meant I was working with some parents navigating school for the first time. This is not an easy task and can feel very overwhelming and confusing, especially at the start of the year. In the middle of the year, parents asked me "What am I supposed to do with my student at home?" At the end of the year, they would ask "How am I supposed to make sure that my kid does not forget everything they learned this year?" or "Should I hire a tutor for my kid for the summer?" or "What if I try and I teach them wrong?" These questions became all too common year after year.
One of my favorite things about teaching was having the opportunity to connect with parents. Parent-teacher conferences and hallway chats at drop-off and pick-up were some of my favorite moments. I enjoyed getting to know parents as members of the community and developing authentic relationships with them. While this may not be the "normal" thing to do, I often got dinner with parents in my class or attended events outside of school for their kiddo. Not only did this help me build stronger relationships with parents, but it also gave me deeper insight into their child. It created a sense of normalcy and trust between us as partners in the student's learning.
Through these many interactions and relationships, I learned that parents needed more help and support, despite my constant efforts. I wanted to help them more than I could. Unfortunately, there simply were not enough hours in the day.
Now, enter Open Door Learning. After stepping out of the classroom, I discovered that one of my true passions is supporting parents while supporting their learners and making education more accessible for parents. My mission is to bridge the gap that exists between home and school and equip parents with the proper resources and supports.
I am not here to give parenting advice. I'm here to make the school side of parenting feel easier. My hope is to empower parents. My hope is to create a community that is honest and supportive of all parents navigating the education system. My hope is to share my expertise and knowledge in education with others in hopes that it makes things, even just one thing, feel a bit easier in this crazy world.
Until next time,
Lexi :)
